Back once again, with the rather polite behavior? While I've been beavering away on the linklog and a host of other projects, ffwd itself gets the silent treatment yet again. No more!
So, what's new? To the right, you can see the neeto Death Jr. cover to the Game Developer magazine June-July issue - the graph that DJ is pointing to has 'death' on one axis, and 'taxes' on the other, because we're quite the merry japesters, heh.
Anyhow, we've just finished the Career Guide issue (here's last year's), which gets news stand distribution through North America, and focuses on how to get into the industry. It includes a big school directory, plus a Day In The Life feature profiling the average coder, artist and designer's workday (the last hilariously written up by David Sirlin), a good piece on how to be an indie developer by Andy Schatz, and plenty of good tips on making the leap to being a game professional.
We're also working on the August issue of the mag, plus an interesting news-related addition for Gamasutra, but I'll talk about those when they happen - in the meantime, check out the postmortem of Mind Control's Oasis, a neat interview with gameLab's Eric Zimmerman, some interesting responses on digital game distribution, and all the other recent Gamasutra features you might actually dig.
Elsewhere, we just announced the 2006 Independent Games Festival (awarded at next year's GDC in San Jose), of which I'm co-chairman, and there's some neat changes - the Grand Prize is up to $20,000, there's a new Web Browser Game category to help the micro-indie, and best of all, there are new modding awards for four major game titles, which the public will help decide - go to the official IGF website on Monday and aid our decision-making, why don'tcha?
