What's with the title? Well, it's 'Chip Van Winkle' in the sense that Vim!'s output is still
roundly slept on. When, oh when, is someone going to sign
him up for his major record label debut, Esther?
In the
meantime, we don't have any funny-looking vegetables for you,
but we do have this compilation of the Vim! .MOD 'chiptune'
(that's .MODs using very small instrument samples, fact fans!)
output from the past few years. Highlights include any number
of messed-up 'Ghost And Goblins'-influenced drill+bass weirdness
and strange-ass arpeggiating wonderfulness stylings, and, yes, the "That's Life" theme too..
The line-up goes something like this:
1. "52 Quid"
2. "Air0Twist"
3. "Aufwl"
4. "Brancaster Packet"
5. "Catering-Sized"
6. "Cyril!"
7. "Fu'Led"
8. "Give Me An Om"
9. "Left Bland"
10. "Not A Lovebite, Alas"
11. "I Was Mario's Tash"
12. "No Bottle"
13. "No Stomach"
14. "Outanaff Heading"
15. "Post-Caring"
16. "Planet Samey Multik"
17. "Rockwell"
18. "Scrounger Ninum"
19. "Tilverton RFC"
20. "Winsum Losum"
And remember, due to the goodness of .MODs, the entire album
is just 250k as a .ZIP :) Oh, and very important - use Surfsmurf's
oldsk00l MOD plug-in for Winamp to get nice stereo effects and
the correct playback on your too-clever 'multimedia PC' - it's at http://hjem.get2net.dk/surfsmurf/index_oldsk00l.htm..
Oh, and a little bonus before the real download - for the true trainspotters, try
_all_ Vim's chiptunes ever - over 130 tunes and 3 hours for just over 1meg. :) Download it
here.
